Ribbit
From the Pond
Inspired by The Portland Frog.
We all saw the frog fighting back. It did not take the actions on unsanctioned violence as a reason to back down. Nor did it take it as a reason to become violent. Instead, it gave us humor and a mascot. The magic of the frog is that it conceals the wearer. Everything about them: this means the frog can represent anyone or everyone, all ages, and types of people.
I wore the frog costume to the No Kings rally on October 18, 2025, to represent those who cannot participate in protests for any reason. I wore this costume to represent all individuals affected by laws and behaviors that harm, when all people want to do is build their lives and families in the way that works best for them, in a country that supports their food, their healthcare, and diversity.
Like you, I want to support keeping our democracy alive. I want to support not just freedom of belief and the right to protest, but the liberty to exist safely in this country as a Human. That said, this movement is not about an individual’s belief; it is about all the disenfranchised-you, me, them. So, I want to stay behind the scenes as faceless as possible. I want you to wear the suit, to see yourself as The Portland Frog standing against the weapons and armor that have proven to be so unnecessary. To know that you got to stand up even when you felt you couldn’t or shouldn’t be protected by the same anonymity that the frog gives all. I want you to march with us all, carrying the humor and joy that we all find in the absurdity that is the grumpy people in power. I want you to use its froggy shape to hop closer to hope and freedom of ideas.
We and our children, and the world deserve better. The Riberty for All movement, and symbolism are about who we can be, who we truly are, beyond the protests, beyond the politicians, beyond those scrambling for power. We are the carriers of hope, the purveyors of peace, and the ones who will not shut up when they try to silence us. When they try to take our friends and neighbors' rights, we will hop, we will dance, we will ribbit, we will show the world that we can all see beneath the illusions of their weak grabs at power.
We know the others fight for themselves alone, while we, the Frogs, sing in one voice for all humanity. We are here to keep them up at night, to awaken them in the morning with the sweet croak, ribbit, and croaks of our songs. The Riberty for All movements will become a chorus that they cannot escape.
Will you ribbit with me?
